Even more needy people are being fed by the Oxford Food Bank

A CHARITY food bank that hands out hundreds of meals a day in Oxford has started delivering directly to families.

The Oxford Food Bank, a charity run by volunteers, has started handing out food to people in need at local community centres.

It previously delivered to local charities to redistribute its donations.

The new arrangement is a partnership with Oxfordshire County Council’s social workers, who now help connect the food bank with families who are known to be in need.

The new base will be at OX2 0JJ, at the back of Habitat at the Seacourt Tower retail park.

Yes, that's right we are moving.  The new base will be at OX2 0JJ, at the back of Habitat at the Seacourt Tower retail park.

We will be at the back of Habitat: when entering the site from the Botley Road, go straight rather than right, and look for the larger roller door.

It’s our pleasure to inform our supporters that The Oxford Food Bank has been awarded £3,000 from the Opus Energy Gift.

It should be noted that many worthy local charities were also in the running for the prizes but we are so pleased to be the ones to get the top prize of £3000 out of the total £10,000 that is available to charities.  It speaks volumes about our organisation and our community of volunteers that help run it.

Thank you.

A fantastic opportunity has come about thanks to Opus energy (An independent energy supplier ) who are running a competition for not-for-profit groups in Oxfordshire.

We have been asked to produce a video about how we would use the gift prize should we win.

Well, as many of you will know that we are soon going to have to vacate our current base of operations by the end of the year so this cash prize can really help us to move and settle into new premises.

Thank you very much to the many people who contributed money and showed interest in the OFB at today's street collection in Cornmarket.  Thanks particularly to the narby Big Issue seller who felt that we were attracting some of the people who would normally be giving him money, but who still gave us a donation himself.

About 60 people visited the depot today as part of Oxford Open Doors.  They learned about where we get our food from, where it goes to, and some of the interesting things about the organisation.  They left with a packet of rice and a leaflet about the organisation.  It was very nice to get so much interest - thank you for coming!
