Shopping plans make Food Bank homeless

THE Oxford Food Bank is on the hunt for a new home after a multi-million-pound redevelopment of the area was announced.

THE Oxford Food Bank, which provides produce for up to 1,000 meals every day, has only been at its current base for six months.

But it’s on the hunt for a new home after a multi-million-pound redevelopment of the area was announced.

The charity currently runs its operations from the former Habitat store warehouse at Seacourt Retail Park.

It collects fresh food from local supermarkets and wholesalers and delivers it free to numerous local registered charities including the Oxford Night Shelter.

A MUM who struggled to feed her children 14 years ago is setting up West Oxfordshire’s first food bank.

Joanne Cypher, 37, said despite the district’s affluent image, it had “pockets of deprivation” and some parents were struggling to feed their children.

She is now calling for other volunteers to help out.

The Oxford Food Bank Launched!

Every year retailers in Britain waste 1.6m tones of food.

Every year retailers in Britain waste 1.6m tones of food. This in a country where 5% of adults cannot afford fresh fruit daily and one in twenty mothers go without food to meet the needs of their children. Most of this food goes to landfill, so, not only is perfectly good food being wasted, it’s damaging the environment too. Doesn’t make sense, does it?

We wanted to put a stop to this in our local area, so we (a group of Oxfordshire people) set up a new charity, the Oxford Food Bank.
