Even more needy people are being fed by the Oxford Food Bank

A CHARITY food bank that hands out hundreds of meals a day in Oxford has started delivering directly to families.

The Oxford Food Bank, a charity run by volunteers, has started handing out food to people in need at local community centres.

It previously delivered to local charities to redistribute its donations.

The new arrangement is a partnership with Oxfordshire County Council’s social workers, who now help connect the food bank with families who are known to be in need.

Meridian TV have done a wonderful story on our efforts.   Follow this link to see.

More people are turning to food banks. Latest figures show that a third of the people receiving emergency handouts are children.

The new base will be at OX2 0JJ, at the back of Habitat at the Seacourt Tower retail park.

Yes, that's right we are moving.  The new base will be at OX2 0JJ, at the back of Habitat at the Seacourt Tower retail park.

We will be at the back of Habitat: when entering the site from the Botley Road, go straight rather than right, and look for the larger roller door.

It’s our pleasure to inform our supporters that The Oxford Food Bank has been awarded £3,000 from the Opus Energy Gift, to go towards your project of moving your office/depot.

It’s our pleasure to inform our supporters that The Oxford Food Bank has been awarded £3,000 from the Opus Energy Gift.

It should be noted that many worthy local charities were also in the running for the prizes but we are so pleased to be the ones to get the top prize of £3000 out of the total £10,000 that is available to charities.  It speaks volumes about our organisation and our community of volunteers that help run it.

A wonderful opportunity to raise £3000.  Follow this link and vote for our video:

Thank you.

A fantastic opportunity has come about thanks to Opus energy (An independent energy supplier ) who are running a competition for not-for-profit groups in Oxfordshire.

We have been asked to produce a video about how we would use the gift prize should we win.

Well, as many of you will know that we are soon going to have to vacate our current base of operations by the end of the year so this cash prize can really help us to move and settle into new premises.

The sun shone, and we raised £230 for the food bank.  Thank you to everyone who came to our stand and supported the Oxford Food Bank.

She is now calling for other volunteers to help out.

There is the opportunity to become part of the committee and help shape this year to promote and engage in a wonderfully tasty and important issue that concerns us all.

Food Justice is an exciting student volunteering project. It is run by a committee of students and residents that aim to raise awareness, research, and plan events related to food ethics issues. These issues can include food waste, food poverty, local food, health, nutrition, and food policy, and anything else the committee is interested in.

Some of the exciting activities on the menu are:

Our friends at Aladdin Motors aladdinoxford.co.uk and allpartsautomotive.co.uk  for their generosity in servicing our vehicles.

The Oxford Food bank would like to say a big thank you to our friends at Aladdin Motors aladdinoxford.co.uk   for their generosity in servicing our vehicles. Also to Allparts (Oxford) allpartsautomotive.co.uk  who have given us parts free of charge. The support of local companies like this is vital to the success of the food bank.

Group of 25 students helping at The Food Bank depot making a difference to the lives of a good many Oxford residents.

A troupe of 25 students walking down the Oxford roads is often the bane of many Oxford residents' summer life. However, this group of 25 students walking to The Food Bank depot was hopefully going to make a difference to the lives of a good many Oxford residents.

  • Rose Hill Children's Centre
  • Refugee Assistance

O'Hanlon House : "In the context of increasingly stretched budgets, the input of the Oxford Foodbank is incredibly helpful".

"Many thanks to all Foodbank volunteers and suppliers from all of us at
O'Hanlon House (formerly Oxford Night Shelter).  We need to provide
three meals a day for between 80 and 100 homeless people every day of
the year and, in the context of increasingly stretched budgets, the
input of the Foodbank is incredibly helpful.  Not only do we not have to
buy as many staples such as fresh fruit and vegetables, but we are able
to give regular treats to the many homeless people who use our services

It’s great to be able to report that we have had several significant donations recently

The state of the Food Bank’s finances had been worrying us recently; though our running costs are very low by comparison with most charities (because we are entirely voluntary) we do have basic costs - principally fuel, various insurances and depot maintenance. At the beginning of March the money was running out.

“THERE is no one else like her. She is an angel on Earth.”

Those were the words of homeless people enjoying the 20th annual Christmas dinner cooked by Icolyn ‘Ma’ Smith.
